Cling to Truth

Did God really give all of us a "sound mind"? I believe Him, so we must all have one... so what is stopping everybody from BEING sound?

I've always known that people don't think the same. In the past year I've realized the spectrum of people's thought processes is much broader than I believed. As a result, miscommunication is everywhere. Communication and social skills are more valuable than ever in this world of idea overload. Not all ideas are bad, but keep in mind this line from Inception: "What is the most resilient parasite? Bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? An idea. Resilient... highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it's almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed - fully understood - that sticks; right in there somewhere.

We are all infected with ideas - some good, some bad. What's even more interesting is the way all our ideas tie together. People can't seem to connect the dots very well. Folks who don't seem to think rationally, evidenced by the ideas they harbor, after put me in a "Squidward mood" as I've affectionately named it. I named it thus because Squidward once said, "Everyone's an idiot except for me."

This is not a good mood to be in; ironically, it makes me more of an idiot. The more I focus on the ideas of others, the more it drives me nuts and the more I start thinking like them. This is NOT good! It seems I should just worry about my own ideas, making sure they are well-connected, good ideas, and focus on knowing what I'm talking about. The more I understand my own ideas, the better equipped I am to defend and spread them. The key is not to know how to rebuttal other ideas, but to know truth very, VERY well.

Let go of the crazy world's philosophies, let go of being right, and just cling to truth.

New Year - New Themes

Wow, 2011 was an emotional/social/professional circus!

The following are a few personal focuses and creeds for the year 2012:
Cease using the following phrases: "I hate ____"  "I don't care" and "I'm tired".

Why eliminate these phrases? Noticed how unattractive hate, apathy, and fatigue are; they don't reflect a go-and-do attitude. If people around me don't like these conditions of mind/body, and these conditions don't benefit me, why would I embrace such conditions or even broadcast them to everyone? Time to stop shooting myself in the foot and start showing everyone that I have a strong, go-and-do attitude.

Dare to be remarkable. Live with style.

Do something frightening just because it's frightening. Take more shots.

Never suppress a generous thought. Serve anonymously

Be a problem solver, not a problem reporter. Cease to be idle. Sweat.

Shake the gates of hell forever.

Recognize when to think and when to act. Just do it.

Tell women that they're beautiful; they are.

Happy New Year

Captain's log: star date 2011: first blog.

Several friends put a lot of stock in what I say, so why not post it on the internet, right? I like to think people read my Facebook posts, but maybe this blog will help me to be heard in a way that will be of use to some of you.

In the future, I'll share more experiences from my day, but tonight I am content to share some spiritual thoughts with you.

The home teaching message this month is about Commitment; an out-of-the-ordinary topic, wouldn't you agree? I'm glad it's different. I actually had to put some thought into it instead of just spouting something from my mind vault.

A few things I've learned:

I believe there is a link between trust and love, but I think commitment puts a limit on how much you can trust a person, and therefore love is also affected. What do I mean? Humans open up to one another if they can trust one another. Love is often a result. We can only trust someone as far as they are committed to our well-being, so commitment indirectly sets a cap on how much we can love.

Another point: if we aren't 100% committed, we can get hurt. Christ is our rock and our foundation that protects us from the devil's shafts in the whirlwind, but how good is a rock if we aren't laying with our faces buried in the rock and limbs clinging to it? Standing on a rock doesn't do much good when the wind is picking us up. We must commit to the gospel and cling to the Rock that is Christ, and then we will remain unharmed.

Some people mock those who commit. This sounds silly, but you'll see what I mean eventually if you're paying attention. In the vision of the tree of life, the people who held tightly to the iron rod made it to the tree; those that were on the path to the tree but didn't cling to the rod fell into diverse paths and were lost. Those in the great and spacious building laughed at those clinging to the rod and partaking of the fruit. Some who had the fruit even felt ashamed and left it behind.

What I'm trying to say is we should all commit 100% to whatever we undertake, especially relationships and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who don't commit will find themselves blown about by the whirlwinds and every wind of doctrine that comes their way, while those who cling to the Rock of our Redeemer and to the iron rod will receive protection from evil; their sins will be forgiven and their sorrows will be swallowed up in the joy of Christ.

I should add scripture references, but I think this is good enough for a first blog. Ah, shucks, I'll add a few:
2 Nephi 15:24, Helaman 5:12, and Alma 31:38.
Praises to God for granting me this faith and knowledge. Amen and good night!
